Re: Colour space

It's my free choice to still call it stupid, and I don't care whether... You are right! It's your prerogative to call it what you want. You don't have to argue on the matter and you can disregard my comment. Yet, since the discussion is public, it's beneficiary for the rest of the readers to know t...

Re: 2x xeon 5670 seems slow

I once read that HyperThreading is not a great benefit, and not x2 in any way, to the computing power of CPUs.
Does experience suggest otherwise?

Re: Colour space

... I have shown quite a few 2:1 features in recent years, but they were all in F-200. With the exception of the current 'Der Rausch'/'Another Round' - which is, stupidly, formatted in S-200. That was not the mastering facility's call but the director's. While that wouldn't be my choice, I see some...

Re: Help wanted with testing on M1 (Apple Silicon) Mac

In the new site layout I can't see values for fps on benchmarks.
Do the alternate columns/stripes suggest a frame per second each, or is it intentional to have a relative but not numeric representation?
...or is it just an overlook?

Re: 4K UHD Blu-ray to DCP for playback on 2K commercial projector?

Depending on your BD-drive, you might be able to get away with UHD reading with just a firmware upgrade.
It depends on whether it is what is called "UHD Blu-Ray 'friendly'".
A few of them do not play directly from the disc though, only rip.

Re: 2.16.0 alpha 6 - Reels ProRes export messes with time code

I will try with the same DCP as soon as possible and report here. Edit: It seems another bug was squeezed relentlessly. For some reason, and that probably has to do with my computer, I was unable to "see" properly the reel files until I exited DCP-o-matic. Until then, the whole folder I us...

Re: 2.16.0 alpha 6 - Reels ProRes export messes with time code

It seems that this is not an exclusive 2.16 alpha issue. Today, I tried to export another DCP to mp4, in reels, on 2.14.48 (I didn't have the time to update to the latest). The resulting mp4 files had the exact same issue. When checking with MediaInfo, I got the correct duration. While playing with ...

Re: subtitle presets ...

Custom presets or ready templates do make sense in more settings than for subtitles. For instance, we do have "Default JPEG2000 bandwidth" in preferences, but the demand is different if we are to build a 2K or a 4K DCP. That goes also for Scope and Flat. Besides the practical benefits, I w...

2.16.0 alpha 6 - Reels ProRes export messes with time code

I tried to firstly export a DCP to ProRes as reels, in order to try to reconstruct it. After finding out that I couldn't, if I didn't first choose on the DCP tab the "Reels: Split by video content", even though I was checking "Write reels into separate files" on the "Export ...

Re: Best frame rate for a 29.97fps file

My vote is to not try to correct things with DCP-o-matic. Get your best first material and work with that. If you want to have a 25fps movie out of your 25fps shots, make it so. Don't compromise with changing the framerate twice. You can't make such changes twice and get the quality you had at first...
