Re: Splicing a DCP (insert edit)
I agree that it's best to avoid VF's - what I meant is to have DOM do an insert/replace edit and create a complete, autonomous DCP without VF's. For example: You have an already-authored DCP of 1,000 frames, and new picture for frames 500-600 (say, in a ProRes MOV) which matches the original setting...

lost+found
According to Google, I'm the first one on the planet to ask this question... (Not related to DOM per se, but this is the perfect community to ask!) Do your DCP drives regularly have a "lost+found" folder in them (root level), alongside the DCP? Do you delete it? I use a "purist" ...

Hearing impaired captions
I'm authoring a feature film DCP and trying to think ahead about hearing impaired subtitles. This is for an indie film in the festival circuit, so there are no hard and fast requirements, but some festivals ask for it. I have SRT files. Open captions 1. The director is adamant to have a semi-transpa...

Re: A DCP VF with a image layer is possible???
So the way they pulled it off was to encode 1Mbps video into one of the audio channels, and sneak it out to a decoder via AES/EBU! :o Sneaky... kinda like the 21st century equivalent of LTC... Here is a very detailed video (by a Brazilian company) showing the process: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v...

Splicing a DCP (insert edit)
Couldn't find here a discussion about making small edits to an existing DCP. I'm talking about instances where a DCP has been created, but the film's producers want to change a few seconds in the middle. Without reels and CPLs, just patch an existing reel. Since a DCP is an MXF with a series of intr...

Re: 3 small bugs in 2.14.10
Many thanks, Carl! Being clearly aware of what the software is doing (re-encoding? Color space conversion?) will be very helpful.

Re: when DCP-o-matic will work finally?
That's a rude and pointless post, radomarkov, coming to the dcp-o-matic forums to basically trash it with nothing to support what you're saying. I'm sorry to hear that it's crashing for you all the time, but you didn't phrase your post in any way that's seeking help, like details about your setup, t...

Re: Playback speed and dropped frames
My bad. I missed the "try the latest" version, and worked with the release. I tried the test release with OpenGL, and can report that on my system I'm seeing the same exact behavior with no change: playback performance is dependent on the window size on the screen, not the J2K decode resol...

3 small bugs in 2.14.10
Using "bug" liberally here, in the sense of "things that I believe should be fixed". Using 2.14.10 3c7d19089d (Mac): 1. Creating a SMPTE DCP, ASSETMAP.xml contains: <AssetMap xmlns="http://www.smpte-ra.org/schemas/429-9/2007/AM"/> Which is a dead link. (Not sure what ha...

Re: Playback speed and dropped frames
Yeah, the effort to develop a free (/ donationware) Mac DCP player is valiant, but still more work to be done. It's something about the graphics output API, not the J2K decoding. I wonder if it'll take writing it in Metal to make it work well. My machine manages to play 2K DCPs at full-rez decode qu...
