Re: YUV to RGB matrix option has no effect

I confirm that since version 2.16.xx that with the rec601 selection the YUV to XYZ matrix does not work. the result seems to always be rec709. It works perfectly with version 2.14.59 Best regards Seems to work for me, as long as you delete the contents of the "video" project folder betwee...

Re: YUV to RGB matrix option has no effect

All right, found the explanation: When I create the 2nd and 3rd versions from the same project file, only changing the YUV to RGB option and not touching anything else, DoM doesn't actually re-encode image data. It doesn't seem to realize that this setting has been changed (even though the video wav...

YUV to RGB matrix option has no effect

Hi, I just created three DCP's from the same source file, each time choosing a different YUV to RGB conversion matrix under Colour –> Custom. To my surprise, I found out that the resulting j2k files are all bit-identical. This also means that the Colour presets Rec.601 and Rec.709 actually give iden...

Re: Understanding the inner workings of the Mid-side decoder...

Some kind of a "pseudo Pro Logic" or even just a basic and safe mid/side decoder would be much appreciated in future versions, too. It's actually getting more – not less – useful for me nowadays. A lot of older audio processors with Pro Logic / matrix decoding for 2.0 DCP audio (such as Do...

Re: Command Line Stereo

Yeah I am coming round to the idea that the enforced 16 channel thing might have been a mistake. Maybe we should make the DCP channel option work again but default it to 8 or 16 channels depending on source? Yes please 🙏 Sorry, I didn't realize that there was already a topic about this: https://dcp...

Re: Command Line Stereo

I'd love at least an advanced option to only write 6 (or at most 8) channels for stereo/5.1 SMPTE DCP's! I do appreciate the effort to avoid as much validation errors as possible, on as many validators as possible… But even most studio 5.1 DCP's by far have only 6 or 8 channels, so I don't believe i...

Re: Vertical positioning of subtitles & SMPTE standard versions

The vertical position tests were done using vertical Japanese text. I wonder if this explains the crucial difference between Harold's test results and mine, or is there perhaps more to it…? There actually was a time when I kept wondering why so many of the Asian DCP's that I get for film festivals ...

Re: Vertical positioning of subtitles & SMPTE standard versions

All right, here goes my progress report…! I used DCP-o-Matic 2.16.18 to create a couple of test clips, all with both Interop and SMPTE versions. I tried to keep it simple and narrow: all tests use the same font (the D-o-M default Liberation Sans, but at size 42), no bold or italics, no vertical or R...

Re: Vertical positioning of subtitles & SMPTE standard versions

Judging from recent experience, it would seem to me that most (all?) real-world D-Cinema equipment follows the 2014 positioning logic We ran extensive tests and found only one server used the 2014 version for vertical positioning I wonder which of these observations is currently more accurate. To b...

Couldn't find anything at a quick glance, except that ST 428-7:2014 is the only spec version listed among "normative references"…
