Strange Encoding Times
I have two versions from a documentary feature, 139 Minutes and 120 Minutes. Technically both are identical: 1920x1080 ProRes4444, 6 discrete Surround tracks in 24bit/48kHz PCM. I still use the defunct Final Cut Pro 7 for editing several versions from one master because - as long as you stick to edi...

Re: Heavy Delay in the Surround Channels
Especially I have to thank them as they did show my no-budget documentary feature in 2021...
And DCP-O-Matic as I would have never been able to afford a DCP for this.

Re: Heavy Delay in the Surround Channels
Yesterday the cinema contacted me and apologized. In order to prepare the cinema as a venue for Berlinale film festival, the festival did send a technical team to check projection and sound. They encountered the same delay problems I had. So again, the mix is good. Gosh, they must have played movies...

Re: subtitle problems
I have no clue why but the problem disappeared. While preparing Chinese subtitles I had the same rubbish like in my post, numbers and letters in squares. But in the "Preview" window, the text is perfect. While playing around with the appereance and selection of fonts I also recognised that...

Re: subtitle problems
Dear Carl, thanks a lot for your reply and your efforts. No, the missing characters replaced by numbers in boxes seems to happen with all subtitles, Spanish and English as well. See the screenshot in my post, Spanish is highlighted. But maybe it is just a very long lag - Spanish was highlighted, but...

Re: subtitle problems
Dear Carl, I did mail you some subs yesterday. In the meantime I tried a workaround: I took the ProRes Quicktime master and remuxed it with the .ass subtitle files using MKVToolnix. Opened the resulting MKV in DOM. Now the subs are displayed, but too large and too close to the center. To my understa...

Re: subtitle problems
Same Problem, with UTF-8 .srt and .ass files. Same effect on all languages. Choosing a Font from the system (Mac) did not help. Before DOM 2.15.178 the English and French subs were displayed correctly The screenshot shows the .srt file. The .ass variants do also store the size and placement of the s...

Re: Heavy Delay in the Surround Channels
I watched my film in two other cinemas now - no delay.
Even though there is percussion in the side channels,
this gives no problem.
So it was the cinema's / projectionist's fault.

Replacing PCM MXF File
Dear friends, I know a DCP can be recreated without re-encoding, but when I tried it looked like DCP-O-Matic started to reencode/remux. This takes long on my computer. Not a topic now. But I was facing the situation where a festival proposed to give them the stereo mix for a certain venue and not su...

Re: Heavy Delay in the Surround Channels
Dear Carsten, thanks for the great explanation! So the percussion could be the reason - but I did NOT have the problem in a second cinema that has roughly the same size - 60 seats. A dedicated upmix plugin was used for the stereo music. I am also surprised that it is not expected that projectionists...
