Re: What is the subtitle frame rate when making a VF DCP?

It might be worth having a dialog box on the import, perhaps...? At the moment if you import some image files it asks you what frame rate they are at, but with subs it just assumes they are the same as the video they are alongside. Yes, that sounds very reasonable to me, please consider it for a fu...

Re: What is the subtitle frame rate when making a VF DCP?

I think in your case you need to right-click on the subtitle file that you prepared for 23.97 and set "video frame rate that content was prepared for" to 23.97. Carl - Thank you. I set "video frame rate that content was prepared for" to 23.976 and made a new VF. Sync was perfect...

What is the subtitle frame rate when making a VF DCP?

Hello, We're making VF DCPs for intentional distribution with local subtitles. Our OV DCP is 24fps converted from the 23.97 master Our VF subtitles file was made with the 23.97 master and is 23.97fps What is the frame rate of our VF subtitle DCP if we use the 24fps DCP as OV? Does DOM automatically ...

Re: DCP has wrong gamma

The gamma 2.6 for the DCP is targeted at a theatrical viewing experience - a dark room, and low screen luminance (48cd/sqm peak white). It does not make sense to compare the conversion results all on a direct view screen. One would need to compare e.g. a 100nits direct view screen at gamma 2.4 with...

Re: DCP has wrong gamma

Hi Carl and Carsten, Our test in the cinema went well though there were some differences of opinion on which version looked best. I decided to dig a bit deeper and had a question about the DoM Gamma Output Correction checkbox: Screen Shot 2022-09-11 at 7.50.52 PM.png This checkbox specifies inverse ...

Re: DCP has wrong gamma

One more thing:

Resizing the DoM Player window with OpenGL doesn't work properly:

Seems like a bug. 😉

Re: DCP has wrong gamma

I went ahead and took advantage of the Paragon discount and licensed NTFS for Mac. I reformatted the drive and now everything is working properly again so I think I'm good.

I assume it's okay to have two DCP folders on a single volume for ingest to the server, correct?

Thanks!

Re: DCP has wrong gamma

Errors like this are a constant source of mystery that I still can't seem to reproduce locally. Are you using Paragon to access the EXT2 drive from macOS? We often see that with Paragon. Just don't use Paragon - it is very finicky with realtime access to multiple files. An NTFS drive is perfectly f...

Re: DCP has wrong gamma

Hi Carsten and Carl, I'm preparing two DCPs to test in the cinema next week and am having an odd problem with DoM Player. One of the the DCPs opens fine on my EXT2 formatted drive. The other DCP opens fine on my macOS hard drives, but after I copy it to the EXT2 formatted drive, it gives this error:...

Re: DCP has wrong gamma

Hi Carl and Carsten, I've just spent that past couple hours with Jamie LeJune, a master colorist who has figured out the problem. Even thought my source ProRes file was exported rec.709 it's actually graded in a BT.1886 color signal path. When we switched the DoM color setting to Rec.1886, the test ...
