Re: General Advice please!

A DCP is a set of files https://dcpomatic.com/manual/html/ch14.html Once created, you may put these files into a folder, rename the folder, whatever. But none of the individual files (MXF, XML) should ever be changed or renamed. The DCP foldername that DCP-o-matic creates will be identical to the CP...

Re: DCP -File could not be opened for writing.

This is usually a problem with storage space. Either the disc was becoming full, or you used e.g. a FAT32 partition which has a maximum file size of 4GB. Theoretically, in certain environments, could also be caused by a disc quota setting. Check you project location and disk sizes. Somestimes, exter...

Re: 2x xeon 5670 seems slow

At least with DOM's J2K, it actually nearly doubles the performance. I just looked it up - the Z600 BIOS does indeed allow to deactivate HT in BIOS-Processor settings. So that would be the first place to look at. I noticed, however, when I bought my second 'second hand' Z600 Xeon 5675 machine (nearl...

+1

There must be a problem with that drive or some OS/addon software functions dealing with it in a special way (DCP-o-matic e.g. used to have problems when projects were created within active MS OneDrive folders).
Could even be antivirus software.

Re: 2x xeon 5670 seems slow

This is a dual CPU 6core + HT machine, so 2*6*2 =24 is the proper thread setting - start up task manager and you should see 24 CPU performance scales, one for every logical core. You may need to right-click on the CPU graph in order to switch to per-core display. https://youtu.be/oilyee1UUyM?t=213 N...

Re: Forced subtitles on MKV files

You probably missed activating them with the 'Use as' checkbox under the Timed text tab. That tab will only show up if captions are detected in your sourcefile. By default, captions contained in source files are never enabled automatically.

Re: fread error 22

Does Premiere still support Quicktime Codecs in Windows? I thought they abandoned Quicktime in Windows a while ago? What drive are you trying to create the DCP on - I assume your Quicktime file are on the same drive? USB? Format? Anything unusual about it? The 'no codec found for stream 2' usually i...

So I assume you create these files with a more or less current version of Premiere on a Mac?

Re: fread error 22

Richard - are you sure you added the DPX sequence using 'Add folder' - and not by using 'Add files'? They give very different results. In general, I would advise against using DPX, since there are so many gamma/range options in DPX. You may be lucky if the application that created these DPX files us...

Re: Colour space

It's my free choice to still call it stupid, and I don't care wether the mastering facility or the director made that decision. They also created a DCP with the lowest possible resolution that way. Usually these decisions are made without full consideration of the typical screen designs in theatres....
