Re: bypass j2c conversion?

Are you sure your hardware J2k encoder creates proper cinema profile j2c files? If not, they will most likely crash the server or not work at all.

J2k for cinema has to follow specific constraints. OpenJpeg uses specific parameter sets.

Re: MBR and 2TB limit?

Some servers will not support 3TB drives, not for ingest, not as an internal RAID drive. So, no problem if you use it only for your personal storage. But for transfer to any cinema servers, stay with 2TB max.

Re: Creating a 4K DCP from a Blu-ray...

Well first of all, an upscaled version can never be any better than the native version. Scaling always introduces artifacts. They may not be visible, but they are there. Then, it could only make sense to create a 4k DCP if you also use a 4k projector for playback. But if you play back a 2k DCP on th...

Re: XYZ Color Conversion & Scaler

I also expressed my concerns about this to Carl recently. It doesn't harm having both options, but it is quite confusing. Admittedly, the scaling, masking/padding and aspect ratio handling is probably the most complex decision issue for, hmm, 'ordinary users'. Usually, the comments below the config ...

Re: Painless 5.1c surround creation

Sounds to me as if you still did not assign the channels properly for multichannel. Also check under der DCP tab that it is set to 6 channels. If you don't assign each individual audio file for multichannel audio properly, DCP-o-matic will assume they should be placed sequentially, not in parallel. ...

Re: What if I actually DO NOT want a color conversion ?

I guess one could set up a custom 'zero' color conversion matrix. But how would that look like for 'no conversion'? Gamma would probably still need to be adjusted, I guess. In general, I don't think it is a good idea to use common video/computer codecs with xyz color space. Because that file usually...

Re: Problems with BluRay

I guess you should try a new copy from the BluRay. Which software do you use? Is it up to date? Have you tried checking the resulting file with e.g. VLC for completeness?

Re: DNxHD, Prores or Uncopmressed

ARRI/RED normally use compressed video, even for high end productions, so, in general choosing a compressed format does not mean a visible compromise. Most people prefer uncompressed only for the post-production phase, because a lot of exchange, processing, compositing, etc. takes place and using a ...

Re: Painless 5.1c surround creation

Should be no problem to create a single file with 5.1 sound. Uncompressed image will be really big (depending on feature length). DNxHD with uncompressed audio should be fine. They should send you a few short snippets in different settings so you can have a try. I remember some issues with DNxHD in ...

Re: Doremi cineplayer compatibility / XML syntax

If I try to summarize that topic, the compatibility with cineplayer isn't mandatory. My DCP will be ok straight out from DCPoMatic despite of cineplayer's warnings. Right? That is right. You can check real world equipment compatibility of DCP-o-matic output against this list: http://dcpomatic.com/c...
