Re: DCP Player - Hardware Specification

Carl - in another thread, someone mentioned that the playback performance would also depend on the relation between display size/resolution and decoding resolution - one would think that, after decoding, the scaling to the display window would be a piece of cake. Maybe you can test this. In case the...

Re: DCP Player - Hardware Specification

A DCI server consists of all that, yes. Plus a dedicated hardware J2K decoder card and secure processing block. Currently, DCP-o-matic player can not be used in front of a cinema audience. I suggest you try NeoDCP player.

Re: Curious transformation issue from TIFF & DPX rendered by Davinci Resolve

I use Resolve 14 myself, let's see if I can replicate your issue.

Re: DCP's made with DCP-o-matic crashes Davinci Resolve 15

Hmm, I guess this is the wrong place to ask. As far as I understand so far, DCP support in Resolve 15 is no longer Fraunhofer/EasyDCP based, but it's their own code. The J2K encoder/decoder is said to be Kakadu (which is a solid J2K library). But that is only the J2K part, not MXF, Metadata, etc. So...

Re: Miscoloured subtitles again

My suggestion to support antialiased burn-in subtitles was somewhere between 2.9 and 2.10, so, it may be that 2.9.x did not use ANY antialiasing, the only visible smearing being introduced by the J2K compression back then. Now that I think about it, the idea to have antialiased font rendering may no...

Re: Curious transformation issue from TIFF & DPX rendered by Davinci Resolve

Which Resolve and DCP-o-matic version are you using? JPEG2000 from (most) Resolve versions so far create playback problems in real DCI cinema servers. There are reports that Resolve 15 with its revised J2K encoder fixes this, but, as long as that is not confirmed, I would be careful to distribute DC...

Re: Miscoloured subtitles again

I would assume that the font rendering bypassed ClearType somehow in DCP-o-matic 2.9.x, so, maybe there is a way to do it intentionally? Agree that it doesn't make sense for cinema subtitling. Hmm. At some point I encouraged Carl to implement antialiasing for burn-in subtitles. Maybe that is the res...

Re: Miscoloured subtitles again

I will try on a Windows machine as well. I understand windows uses system wide font smoothing technology (clear type), and I read some articles about how that technology may render chars in a weird way. I know that some people complain about the way clear type creates false colors in creating RGB su...

Re: Miscoloured subtitles again

Another VLC video snapshot from a DCP/mxf created with a cyan-outlined burn-in subtitle (66% - outline 4).

Re: Miscoloured subtitles again

Hmm... Honestly, in your own JPEG example it is hard to see any of that issue. Also, a 66% subtitle with an outline 4 is REALLY small on an actual cinema screen. Now - how do you create these screen shots? When I create a screenshot in DCP-o-matic player and enlarge - I see a lot more coloration tha...
