Re: SMPTE DCP and Subtitles

There is a recognized way for the 'empty' captions/subtitle reels. Similarly to RDD52, there is recommended procedure:

Re: DCP -File could not be opened for writing.

Okay, I can only guess here that the path to the project and thus assets is too complex (too long, spaces and dots...). Maybe you can try a shorter pathname, like C:/Paula/ (you may need to set write access to this location first). I can also see that your source file has a complex long name that ma...

Re: SMPTE DCP and Subtitles

Deluxe does not only duplicate DCPs, but also is dominating mastering and DCP conversion. So, you may imagine they are happy to find issues in DCPs NOT created by them ;-) There is a recent effort to standardize DCP format on a more specific level than generic SMPTE ('RDD52'). In recent test version...

Re: captions displaying > correctly

Okay, I seem to be wrong, again. Maybe it IS a bug in DCP-o-matic, but only in the display/preview rendering part. Seems that the DCP you created is formally correct. That's a 'lighter' bug then: From the Cinecanvas spec (and I am sure it is the same in SMPTE subtitles): --- 1.4 Predefined Entities ...

Re: captions displaying > correctly

Must be a charset/encoding issue. Can probably be solved by converting the SRT file with 'some' editor and choosing a different encoding. Which version of DCP-o-matic are you using? Hmm... seems to be a bug in DCP-o-matic - no matter what encoding I use, > is shown as &gt It also arrives in the ...

Re: General Advice please!

A DCP is a set of files https://dcpomatic.com/manual/html/ch14.html Once created, you may put these files into a folder, rename the folder, whatever. But none of the individual files (MXF, XML) should ever be changed or renamed. The DCP foldername that DCP-o-matic creates will be identical to the CP...

Re: DCP -File could not be opened for writing.

This is usually a problem with storage space. Either the disc was becoming full, or you used e.g. a FAT32 partition which has a maximum file size of 4GB. Theoretically, in certain environments, could also be caused by a disc quota setting. Check your project location and disk sizes. Sometimes, exter...

Re: 2x xeon 5670 seems slow

At least with DOM's J2K, it actually nearly doubles the performance. I just looked it up - the Z600 BIOS does indeed allow to deactivate HT in BIOS-Processor settings. So that would be the first place to look at. I noticed, however, when I bought my second 'second hand' Z600 Xeon 5675 machine (nearl...

+1

There must be a problem with that drive or some OS/addon software functions dealing with it in a special way (DCP-o-matic e.g. used to have problems when projects were created within active MS OneDrive folders).
Could even be antivirus software.
