Single stem 5.1 wav files

Post by Sjase777 »

Hi. Does DCP o matic accept single file 5.1 wavs? Or should the audio be an interleaved/multichannel QuickTime file? I’m providing the sound mix to the colourist remotely. Cheers

In general, at least in DCP-o-matic (and probably most other mastering solutions as well), a combined/interleaved audio file is easier to handle if:

- all channels are strictly in sync
- the track assignment is well documented, or compliant with DCI track order: L,R,C,LFE,SL,SR

Individual files are often considered more 'professional' or better to assign, but, in practice, they cause more issues and need more work to be assigned properly, thus errors occur more likely. It is pretty easy, though, to convert back and forth between interleaved and file split even in free software like Audacity if needed.
