interface too bright - unreadable

the interface is too bright, can´t hardly read the buttons.

Check the Displays settings in the System Preferences to change the gamma. Macs with integrated display rarely have gamma problems, but for external displays, gamma problems are more common.

I tried with different monitor settings but did not change it was version 2.16.34. Finally got better with the new version 2.16.47 where the surface is grey instead of white, the buttons became visible

Strange - does it look ok if you use the computer in light mode?
