Audio Levels question from a newbie

Post by AmbientRoom »

Hi All!

Amateur filmmaker here, and this is my first time creating a DCP.

I have received this hint: Your audio level is very high (on L, R). You should reduce the gain of your audio content.

Here are my levels

Should I change levels? Or can I move on to create the DCP?

Thanks so much!

How did you manage to get these high peaks above 0dB?

You should reduce gain for both channels by (-)3.5 dB. That will still leave you a decent overall loudness.

I have no idea lol

Is that something I can do in DCP? Or do I need to make another edit?

Thanks Carsten!

When you select the audio tab, there is an overall gain setting option. Enter -3.5 there, check the audio analysis again, and it should just NOT peak anymore. It will probably still show red - but that's okay, as long as it is below zero. If you already created the DCP - do it nonetheless within the existing project, as DCP-o-matic will only recreate the audio and reuse the transcoded video.
