adding subtitle to existing dcp

Post by filmclub bz oli »

Hi,

I work in an little arthaus cinema and we show a lot of independent local films - so I make a lot of dcp during a week.

But now I got a file and a seperate subtitle file. when I import the subtitle file (.srt) dcp-o-matic (version2) crashes.
Tomorrow comes the director of the movie. She has already a dcp, but only with no subtitle, or different subtitle.

Is it possible to ad this srt file to her dcp file?

... another film file crashed these days with version 2 ... maybe I have to install it agein (I make a dcp rhight now with version 1.78.0)

Which version 2 exactly? And what kind of file do you use within DCP-o-matic? We usually need more detailed information to come up with something helpful.

And yes, you can (quickly) add subtitles to an existing DCP by referring to it's assets. But only in 2.x

If an SRT file crashes DCP-o-matic:

- send it to Carl for analysis
- load it into one of the many SRT editors, re-save it, then try again with DCP-o-matic

Hi,

I have Version 2.7.1

It´s an srt File and I sent an eMail to Carl .

How do I "add subtitles to an existing DCP by referring to it's assets"?

I haven't seen this email: perhaps you could resend? carl@dcpomatic.com

Import the DCP with "add folder". Select "refer to existing" in the video and audio tabs. Then add your subtitle file and check in the preview that it is overlaid correctly. Make DCP and you will get a VF (supplementary) DCP which refers to the imported DCP and includes the subtitles.

I sent again to the new adress.

I will try this step by step, as you told me.
Strange that the program did crash when adding this srt file... but this was while creating a new dcp from a mov. file.

Hello,

I did create a file with working subtitles, but a little different, then u told me in the thread... but only because I did not find the properly "buttons"...

So I got not an VF - I got an full OV.

And it was not synchron... how can I fix that?

In Minute 10, the subtile is 90 seconds further.

You can adjust the timing of the subtitles by selecting the subtitle file, then going to the Timing tab and changing the values there.

Is the synchronisation error the same through the whole film, or does it change?

In that tab you change the timings as a batch.
