Remote Ingest to Christie IMB

Post by jakesinn »

Hello all,

I am a advertising manager for a small town theater.

I will soon be going to college, but wanted to see if there was a way to put the DCPs directly onto the projector through my Mac.

Currently, I just use small USB drives and leave them at the theater for the owner to ingest.

TIA

The Christie IMS uses an external NAS for DCP storage and ingest, it has common features such as FTP. Don't know how streamlined you want this to be.

What do you mean "mainstream"?

'streamlined'.

There are various methods to send files to devices at the cinema. However, you need to talk to their techs/IT department to find out which methods are available/allowed. e.g. some people use cloud based storage like dropbox, google drive, etc. to transfer DCPs into the cinema automatically.

There are two or three different Christie IMS and NAS types - you need to find out which of these is actually installed there.

I don't believe it is Christie NAS - I think we have NetGear ReadyNas 2100.

The NetGear ReadyNas 2100 is one of Christies approved NAS devices for the IMB-S2.

The question is, will you find a way to send DCPs to the Christie/NAS diectly, or will you need to find a way to relay it using e.g. a PC at the cinema.

Our Sony Server does not support a direct Push-Ingest, so I need to make content available to it over the network, and control the ingest from the Sony using remote access from a local PC that is running daily. This is the way I do it. You may need to find your own way. I'm afraid you may need to read the Chistie IMB and ReadyNas manual. Unfortunately, that Christie IMB is not one of the most popular devices in the cinema world, and, aside from the official manuals, is probably underdocumented.

We do have a PC at the cinema, but I don't know it's purpose. It's attached to one of the projectors.

That would be your starting point.

Set up an FTP Server like Filezilla Server on your computer and connect it to the other Ethernet port on the IMB.

Use the remote ingest function on the TPC to key in the IP address and credentials.

It was a long time ago and I recall it took a bit to get it to work but it does work.
