2.16.14 test release

Post by carl »

Hi all,

DCP-o-matic 2.16.14 is now available on the test download page. There have been some quite big internal changes to how subtitles are handled, so if anyone is using subtitles I'd be very grateful if you could give it a test!

Feel free to report problems here or in the bug tracker.

Thanks!

Will installing <2.16.14> overwrite the current version?

On Windows and Linux, yes. On Mac you can just run it from the .dmg without copying the .app anywhere else, if you like.

It is possible to have multiple versions installed on both Mac and Windows (don't know for Linux). They do share the same prefs, though, and sometimes prefs are not compatible between versions (so it always a good idea to backup your prefs from time to time). I can only guess, but, probably, 2.16.xx prefs so far should all be compatible.

All you need to do to run different versions on the same system is to rename their folders, and then call the specific app version from inside these folders.

DoM <2.16.14> TEST RELEASE > IMPORTING .ASS SUBTITLES

Importing ASS subtitles to DoM (open subtitles)
- Subtitles display on preview much larger than on Aegisub
- ASS Font (Arial black) not displayed
- Subtitle's distance from edge not displayed
- ASS format for outline/shadow not displayed
- ASS formatting for Italics displayed
- Positioning not accurate (vertical top of screen displays vertical center)

Mac: OSX 10,15.7
Aegisub Settings
Subtitle Editor: Aegisub 3.2.2
Video file: 1920x1080 (16:9)
Font: Arial 60pt

ADDENDUM:
When I wrote the above I was making the observations from the preview but after creating the DCP file, while processing the files I got this message:
<Could not open Adonde 1.ASS... DCP-o-matic could not open the file... Adonde 1.ass...>
I don't remember getting that message before when I tried importing an <.ASS> file on the previous version.

Thanks for checking. Sadly fixes for most of the ASS problems didn't make it into this release (the changes are here) but it's interesting that Arial black did not work. Do you have a .otf or .ttf file of Arial Black on your system?

I have Arial Black listed in my font book but beyond that I don't really know. It was on the fonts available for Aegisub.

DoM 2.16.14 test - IMPORTING SRT SUBTITLES [ as open subtitles]

- Show subtitle area: rectangle doesn't display
- Appearance: Shadow setting is offset too much to the side leaving gap
- Appearance: Outline width is set to <4> and can not be changed
- Italics formatting on SRT (<i> </i>) is displayed correctly as italics
- Arial Black font displays correctly on preview screen
- Arial Black font doesn't display on DCP's playback instead default font is displayed.
- Font size display is consistent between Preview & DCP Playback

macOSX 10.15.7
SRT with local formatting exported from Aegisub 3.2.2
