The Waves UM226 upmixer includes their 'LoAir' effect as an option on the derived LFE, which pushes everything in that channel an octave lower, so it isn't a straight up duplication of the bass information from the main channels.

That's my usual tool for upmixing stereo sources to 5.1 for our advertising reel. It's definitely noticeable on some music cues, not so much on others.

Of the two upmix plugins mentioned in this thread, Nugen Audio Halo and Waves UM226, the Waves one is much cheaper (currently on sale for $30).

Do you have a known- good setup / preset you could share jdent02? This could be an alternative to my manually-created setup in Audition.

Nothing too complex. I set the mode to "Center Dialog" and turn the LoAir option on. Seems to work pretty well on the typical stereo files I get since 95% of them are center panned dialog with some stereo music.

Thanks, looks like I have a manual and a plugin option for creating surround upmixes now.
