I am going to tear my server down and re-install from scratch for now - will take me a few days [evenings] but I want to start from a clean install.

I will let you know how it goes -- thanks for being so patient and posting tips on here.

OK, sorry we didn't get to the bottom of it. I am building for Debian 7 using a stock chroot with the following things installed in /usr/local/include:

- FFmpeg (recent git)
- libcxml (newest)
- libdcp (newest)
- OpenJPEG 1.5.1
- libquickmail (newest)
- wxWidgets 3.0.2

Let us know how you get on. We can persist with your existing setup if you like...

No problem at all. I've been playing so much with this to try and get all the dependecies sorted it has got to be worth starting from scratch just to make sure. I will let you know how i get along
