DOM Player Full Screen Aspect Ratio

Hi,

Sorry if this has been answered but at the moment I only have time to share my problem.

I just installed 2.16.5 and built a scope DCP. In DOM player, it looks fine until I go fullscreen. When in fullscreen, the image gets stretched vertically.

Big Sur v11.6
iMac (Retina 5K, 27-inch, 2020)

I think that is a known bug. Does it make a difference wether you use simple or Open GL mode?

Hi Carsten, thanks for your reply.
Does it make a difference wether you use simple or Open GL mode?
No, it doesn't make a difference.

I haven't seen this. Is it a very obvious stretch?

Ah, I remember now - my latest tests on the 5k iMac showed the Open GL fullscreen mode still in a small window (NOT fullscreen). Carl then worked on this. So, in the current release, it might be full screen, but the AR is wrong. But I think I noticed the AR bug as well, it just wasn't as obvious as the fact that fullscreen didn't go fullscreen on that 5k iMac then.

@2-perf: Are you sure this is a real scope container? Unfortunately, I have to travel quite a bit to get back to that 5k iMac, and my own 15" MacBook is too outdated for any real Open GL stuff. I may still give it a try with the 2.16.5

Okay, I made some screenshots from a 2k scope trailer windowed/fullscreen safe/open gl (luckily, they also seem to work in open gl mode):

When I crop them, I get:

The Fullscreen OpenGL is indeed stretched a bit compared to all other modes - 1440*556 (1:2.59 vs. 1440*604 (1:2.38)
Also, the OpenGL Fullscreen grab has a few (4) extra black pixels on the right side, but they don't account for the stretch.

However, my MacBook has less than 2k display resolution, so, on a 5k iMac, the scaling may come out different.
Also, in full screen OpenGL on THIS MacBook Pro, the scope container is shifted/offset to the top of the screen, so, not vertically centered. I don't care, as I don't use the player for public presentation.

BTW - on this machine, the Open GL (both windowed as well as full screen) comes out brighter than safe mode. Can't say yet which comes closer to the original just by looking at them.
When I compare it to a VLC source grab of the MXF, safe mode looks identical, so it may be that OpenGL comes out too bright or with a lower gamma.
The visual difference actually looks smaller here in Safari compared to Preview app on my Mac.
The VLC grab, of course is 1:2.38

Sorry for the delay guys. I'm quite busy at the moment. Here are some screenshots. The bottom of the image stays were it is when not in fullscreen but the top of the image get stretched to the top of the screen when entering fullscreen.

I'm totally certain my DCP is in the scope format.

Also, on my windows 10 machine (1920x1200), when I go fullscreen, there's a bright line under the viewer. That bright line is not part of the film's image.

Ooops. That's even a different stretch (vertically) than what I see. Admittedly, our two machines are something like 10 years apart when it comes to GPU...

The white bottom line in full screen is an issue that comes and goes over versions for a long time. Not sure what causes this. However, I only see it in safe mode, not in open gl.

Was finally able to check player performance on a 15" MacBook Pro RetinaDisplay. Safe mode has lot's of lost frames, opengl is smooth. Unfortunately, full screen is unusable because of the aspect ratio distortion and non-vertically centered image. Wondering what is needed to fix this? On this machine, it seems even safe mode is displaying the image shifted towards the top of the screen. I myself don't bother, as I don't use the player for presentation, but others may want to. Do we have this issue on all platforms, or is this a Mac specific issue?
