DCP-o-matic

Hello everyone,

I've been trying to play some DCPs using the DCP-O-Matic Player (latest version: 2.16.18) and have been unable to get the program to open properly. When opening the program the screen go completely black. If I hit the windows key I can see the Start Menu and the task bar. I have to close the program by clicking on the icon in the task bar or force close it from the Task Manager.

Is there a known fix for this?

Hi, it could be that it's gone into full screen mode, which is currently hard to get out of on Windows unfortunately.

Assuming you don't use DCP-o-matic for anything else it should be fine to delete your settings, which are in

c:\Users\your_user_name\AppData\Local\dcpomatic

That should fix it.

This also happened to me but I'm on a Mac. Is there a fix for Mac?

Same fix, just that the prefs are in a different place on a Mac.

Note, for DCP-o-matic 2.14.x, prefs (config.xml) are in .../Preferences/com.dcpomatic/2 - while for 2.16, they are in .../Preferences/com.dcpomatic/2/2.16

So, make sure you use the right config.xml for the version you use.

BUT - before you fix it that way, first try hitting F11, or go to your Mac keyboard prefs, make sure F1,F2... F-Keys are used as standard function keys (instead of system functions), then restart the player and try F11 again. F11 will toggle between fullscreen and window mode, IF F11 is recognised as a standard function key.

Hitting fn+F11 is another possibility, depending on your keyboard settings. If neither keystroke works - THEN trash (or rename) prefs. You could also open the prefs file in text edit and edit the full screen option manually from

<PlayerMode>full</PlayerMode>

to

<PlayerMode>window</PlayerMode>
