Fluid Playback possible?

Post by Anton »

Dear swarm.

Is it possible to Playback a DCP without framedrops with DCP-O-Matic?

I think about upgrading my ram (from 16 to 128), but I am not sure if is the only determining factor.

I am using a 6.1 MacPro
Processor
3,5 GHz 6-Core Intel Xeon E5

Graphics
AMD FirePro D500 3072 MB

Thanks in advance

Are you using the "OpenGL" video mode in preferences?

Hello Carl.

Thank you for your question.

In fact, I did not.
Now i do.
If I playback the DCP with quater resolution, it really does not lose frames.
If I playback the DCP with half resolution, it starts to lose frames.

Do you think more Ram would make it possible to Playback in full resolution with no dropouts?

I'm a bit surprised it doesn't work better. Did you re-start DCP-o-matic after changing the option?

Can you check the CPU load while playing a DCP?

The 6core E5 might be a bit too weak for this. Check both CPU load displays in activity monitor (utilities folder.

Is this a 2k or a 4k DCP? Framerate?

Adding RAM will not improve playback performance.

Is the DCP on a local/SSD drive, or on an external/USB or network drive?
