Thanks for everybody's help. For my own reference, and hopefully to help others, I have done a (hopefully) easy-to-follow guide. Would be good if people could have a look and highlight any errors, or changes they think would be good.

I am up for folding this into the official guide if it seems appropriate and can help work on this if it seems appropriate and is wanted. I see this as a part of the how-to section to supplement the existing reference-type material (which is great, thank you).
