Summary | 0001517: investigate 4k DCP playback in player and DCP-o-matic main. | ||||
Description | 4k DCP playback in player is extremely choppy (not even a decent slide show), even at quarter resolution decode mode. Even on a machine that is able to play back 2k at full decode res without dropped frames. Maybe there is more to be adjusted for 4k than reducing decode mode. 2k Cinema servers leave out the 4k layer completely for 2k playback. I was thinking that DCP-o-matic does the same in half res decode mode, and from there to quarter res. Maybe another scheme is needed to allow that for 4k J2K.

Oh, wow - that's interesting - playback of 4k on my 4coreHT Macbook is MUCH better than on my 12coreHT Windows workstation... I get dropped frames, but otherwise, a still fluid playback. So, forget about that. Would be interesting though why it's so bad on that WIN7 dual hexacore CPU.
