Summary | 0001420: Streamline reduced GUI functions | ||||
Description | I would like to talk a bit about the features to add/remove to/from the simple GUI option. I was first sceptical about that mode, but, I played with it a bit, and I think it's a good idea. e.G. I would give up all encryption. I would keep fade in/out, as that is often used for stills/slides (and is easy to understand and see in preview) I also think we should get rid of 3D in the simple GUI. It's not a bad idea to remove the data rate option from the DCP tab, and leave it only in prefs. What else? Maybe make only the Mid/Side decoder an option? Remove audio delay? Dolby Fader calculation? I guess I will have a look at my old dvd-o-matic versions to see what was available there. Is it possible to remove many prefs settings as well in simple mode? They could still keep their stored/default values when full mode is reactivated. Oh, and one of my all time favourites - remove the check box 'Don't show hints again' - also for the full GUI version. Maybe give a hint somewhere in the GUI that simple mode is active.

Based on 2.13.78: 3D in simple mode may make sense, as it allows the creation of simple 3D slides (like put your glasses on). Fade is useful, and yes, I think we need Trimming, maybe ONLY from playhead position. Just buttons to register the playhead position, no manual number entry, just display. I would probably leave out audio delay as well. Not useful most of the time, and dangerous. |

I think most of this is done in 2.13.x, we can look at it again after 2.14.0. |
|
After some thought I removed "simple" mode from 2.15.x. I couldn't find any evidence that it solved the problems it was intended to solve, and in fact there were a number of situations where people were confused because they could not see options that everybody else could. |
