I think at the time there were different messages for different wrapping types. And I wanted to express that e.g. 25fps is 'mostly' ok, even for Interop DCPs.

Can you tell me how the trigger for these warnings currently work? I assume that now 'everything' other than 24/48-3D triggers the same warning, and for both Interop and SMPTE?

"You are set up for a DCP at a frame rate of %1 fps. This frame rate is not supported by all projectors. You are advised to change the DCP frame rate to %2 fps."

  • project frame rate is 48/50/60 - you really should use 24/25/30 respectively.

"You are set up for a DCP at a frame rate of %1 fps. This frame rate is not supported by all projectors. You may want to consider changing your frame rate to %2 fps."

  • project frame rate is 25 - perhaps you should try 24 (this is shown whether SMPTE or Interop; if the project is Interop we add "If you do use 25fps you should change your DCP standard to SMPTE.".

"You are set up for a DCP frame rate of 30fps, which is not supported by all projectors. Be aware that you may have compatibility problems.

  • project frame rate is 30, which might not work, and we don't really have any good solution for you - sorry!

My German is pretty much non-existant but I guess the first part of the translation for

"You are set up for a DCP at a frame rate of %1 fps. This frame rate is not supported by all projectors. You are advised to change the DCP frame rate to %2 fps."

is currently

"You have selected Interop"

which I think is where the misunderstanding arose.

Alright, sorry, couldn't get back to this earlier. In the current po files, I see three warnings dealing with frame rate.

Maybe you can clean out those that are no longer used? I think a single one should now be sufficient - everything beyond 24(2D) and 48(3D) is 'at your own risc'.

I would still want to express that 25fps is ok for Interop. As those systems not supporting 25fps do not support it in Interop and SMPTE.

I'll upload it soon. I noticed also that there is a new warning regarding language tags in OCAP/CCAPs? I think that is hard to understand for the common user? If you feel it should stay, we would need to have that translatable as well.

There's a slight difference in the tone of the messages between 48 -> 24, 25 -> 24 and 30->24.

Currently I am seeing 48 -> 24 as being something that should be a no-brainer: successful playback of 48fps is pretty unlikely, and going to 24 won't affect the soundtrack at all.

By comparison 25 -> 24 is more of a questionable decision: lots of projectors will play 25, and going to 24 will change the quality of your sound a little.

With 30->24 you really just have to stick with the 30 and hope for the best, since DCP-o-matic's "conversion" to 24 will ruin your material (but you need to be aware that it may not work, and there isn't a whole lot you can do about it).
