Best FCP export settings for DCP?

Post by sean2212 »

Hi folks,

I need to create a DCP from an FCP export. My question is: should I create the DCP from an uncompressed export, or just do an export as ProRes 422 and make the DCP from that? Would there be any noticeable difference in quality between the two?

The film I am exporting is being shown at a film festival on what I presume is a standard digital projector. (I asked the film festival this question, and they haven't replied.)

Many thanks!

What was your source video format?

It is quite common for DCPs to be created from Prores 422, as it is an established format and 'safe'. Some of the more exotic higher quality formats may sometimes cause problems. It may also depend a little bit on the type of content - e.g. was it shot/edited with a component/4:2:2 codec as well.

Thanks for your reply. I'm not sure what the shooting codec was, but it was edited as ProRes422.

In that case, I would create the master directly from the Prores 422.
