Re-use 3D DCP with new audio mix

Post by nosemiguel »

Hi,

This is my first post here. So: I've encoded a 3D DCP and now I have to make new DCP with an alternative sound mix. The video part is exactly the same and both audio mixes are the same in terms of length and specs, only a few differences in levels.

How can I use the existing 3D DCP to avoid re-ecoding the whole video part and just replace the sound part?

I have read here about VF DCPs, but the problem is that when I bring in the existing 3D DCP it is read as 48 fps (I know this is ok it plays normally in the theatre), so its duration is halved, mismatching the new audio mix which has the original duration.

Is there any way to achieve this??

Thank you very much

Hi,
Unfortunately at the moment there is a bug whereby 3D DCPs are not correctly imported. If you have the original DCP-o-matic project you can just replace the sound, re-make the DCP and it will re-use the video that it encoded on the first run. Will that work for you?

HI Carl,

thanks for the quick reply,

I just tried that but it look like it started to re-encode the whole thing again. Maybe I;m doing something wrong?

I opened the project, added the new audio file, unmapped the original audio, left everything else as it was for the first DCP and went for Make DCP. It looks like it was re-encoding the original ProRes files instead of using the encoded JPEG200

Let me know if Im missing a step

Thanks

It might look like it's re-encoding, but isn't it going much faster than the original encode?

not really.

the first 1% encoding looked like it was way faster (85 fps) but then went got to the 2% it went back to the regular encode speed of 4.5ish fps. And now it's going as slow as the original encode.

Am I supposed to bring the MXF into the content window? cause I didnt do that

... definitely making a full new encode. Im using o-matic 2.8.0 by the way

Thanks for your help
