DCP's Audio out of sync

Post by Sam »

Hello,

I am trying to figure out why my DCPs consistently have sync issues with the audio. I have tried downloading the test version of DCP-o-matic and adding delay to the audio which does help but I have to trial and error the delay time wasting hours of time and generating multiple DCPs. Is this a common problem? I can't figure why it happens with multiple different sources.

Thank you

If this offers any clue, my process is:
DVD (external Blu-ray drive) -> MakeMKV -> DCP-o-matic

Are you seeing the bad sync on a projector, or some other way? Which exact version numbers of DCP-o-matic have you tried?

What is the amount of out-of-syncness? Barely noticeable (1-2 frames) or more obvious (seconds)?
Does it go more out of sync as the movie advances or does the delay stay the same troughout? There could be multiple causes
Are the DVDs PAL or NTSC? what framerate?
I woud first convert the mkv to more "pro" format like ProRes + wav and check sync before using DoM.

Hi Carl,

Thank you for the reply. I am seeing a bad sync on the projector and in the DOM player. I am using 2.17.19 but I was getting the same problem with 2.16.x

Hi cvila,

Of the 2 DCPs I am working on, one shows a slight (couple frame) sync issue and the other is way off - like over 10 seconds. Both seem to maintain the level of sync without drifting throughout.

I am not sure if the DVDs are PAL or NTSC - I will try and figure that out though. The DCP with slight issue has a framerate of 24 fps while the bigger sync issue DCP has a framerate of 30 fps. Here is a potential theory: I am using an external Blu-Ray drive to read the discs. But I am trying to rip DVDs, not Blu-Rays. Could that have something to do with it?

I will try and figure out how to convert my MKV file into ProRes + wav.

Thank you for your reply.

Hi Kewl,

Here is the Mediainfo for one of my MKV files:

Is it odd that there are 5 different audio streams and only one video stream?

Can you send the metadata.xml and log files from the project where you made the one that's 10s out of sync? carl@dcpomatic.com
