Again,

the manufacturer of the DCP is responsible for quality of their product. There are guidelines for manufacturers who describes what is needed for a proper DCP - that also includes the audio with all the levels that gives a proper result at the cinema.

Why should a cinema therefore do any additional QC checks?

The manufacturer of a DCP MUST do that properly. If someone needs pressure then it is the manufacturer and not the cinema!

Well, ultimately, the cinema operator is responsible for what he exposes his audience to. He get's the feedback.

That said - I don't see so many problems with audio levels at our cinema. As an operator, I consider it more important to be present at the cinema in general. You do not only get negative feedback for your audio levels, but also for the state your toilets are in, or other general aspects of the customer experience. You can not delegate that to numbers.

A festival, yes, certainly important to consider audio levels as part of your QC process.

One benefit of DCP-o-matic is that it is multi-platform and easy to install and use. Which is not the case for dcp_inspect and clairmeta.
Verifier could certainly benefit from an added optional LEQ(m) pass, player as well.

It is the same for me,

regular DCPs made for the cinemas don't cause many problems. That is why I said it is different for a festival where you get many many different DCPs from many sources. Some of them were never tested and presented in a regular cinema. The festival I work for is expecting the DCP to be tested a 100% in a cinema. But not all human's care - or can't care - for what ever reason.

I think we should define what is important to check or at least what everyone thinks is important. I personally would like to contribute my experience for a reliable tool. If it is the 'Verifier' or a separate tool for people with a deeper knowledge in the DCP area and needs for their QC.

One 'small' issue with using DCP-o-matic for LEQ checks is that before you can check LEQ, you need to setup a project and import the DCP, this may also lead to issues with correct channel assignments. In player or verifier, this would be much easier for a cinema operator/projectionist. Also, in verifier, I could have my whole pre-show DCPs in a folder, and let all checks run over the full set in one go, then look at the report to sort things out.
