signed - encrtypted dcps

Post by lemgeo »

Hi all,

Is it possible to create encrypted but not signed dcps?
If I select encrypted, I can't uncheck signed.

Or If i send an encrypted signed DCP to a facility, to add subs in a foreign language,
will they be able to unlock the DCP If i send them a DKDM for their software certificate?

In fact I did send a DKDM creted by DoM and they told me that their software accepts the DKDM but the DCP remains locked
and i was wondering if it is a "signed" matter or I've done something else wrong.

Thanks
Carsten

Encryption is complicated, and I can only assume something went wrong with the DKDM you sent them. Signing should not be relevant here.

Hi Carsten,
you're right, the problem must be elsewhere.

I had the same problem sometime ago:
I received a 24fps encrypted SMPTE package and a DKDM for DoM.
I made a 24fps encrypted INTEROP package. I found no errors using dcp_inspect. I've made a KDM for a DOLBY server, I've load my package ( no errors about missing key or anything else) but couldn't start playing.
The situation is similar now:
DCP received: 24fps encrypted SMPTE created by doremi and DKDM for DoM
DCP created :24fps encrypted INTEROP.

Maybe it's a local issue. I 'll make a test to a different machine.

Thanks

I never tried converting a SMPTE Package to Interop.

I guess what I would try is to do two or three different versions for testing, one the way you did so far, One with a re-encode, encrypting, etc., one with an MXF-only import and conversion.

Maybe testing these versions will give you a better idea. DCP-o-matic allows to do many things not immediately evident from the GUI. But not necessarily everything will work the way we assume.

Finally it was the facility's issue. After they restart their system everything was ok.

Also tested with easydcp player and to DOLBY server and all good.
So the way described in the first post works.

I've also tried the second way - re-encode, encrypting- and works too, but needs much much more time.
The first way took for a 90 minutes movie about 130 minutes.

I haven't tried importing the mxf files yet.

Thanks
