Error message in DCP-o-matic after creating the DCP (28 min source file, mp4) The file (created DCP ... SHR-1-25_F178-De-en_Germany ... SMPTE O ... mfx ) could not be opened for writing.
DCP folder File was created in the DCP-o-matic folder, but the corresponding folder is empty

This is usually a problem with storage space. Either the disc was becoming full, or you used e.g. a FAT32 partition which has a maximum file size of 4GB.

Theoretically, in certain environments, could also be caused by a disc quota setting.

Check your project location and disk sizes.

Sometimes, external USB discs can also operate unstably, causing the disc to be ejected, or have similar issues.

Thanks, Carsten, for the feedback! But it doesn't seem to be due to the storage space. There are still over 400 GB on my C:\ hard drive. The video is 28 minutes long and 20 GB as CPD (without the now burnt-in subtitles).
I have now tried again, but I got the same error message again??

Okay, I can only guess here that the path to the project and thus assets is too complex (too long, spaces and dots...).

Maybe you can try a shorter pathname, like C:/Paula/ (you may need to set write access to this location first).

I can also see that your source file has a complex long name that may cause an issue here.

Actually I am a bit drunk in the moment, so, not sure, but I think the common Windows path length limit is 260, and your path name to the MXF is more than 260 chars. I may be able to re-check tomorrow when I'm sober again.

Or better try to place the project folder and source file on your desktop, like C:/Users/Paula Georges/Desktop/Gedicht/

Wasn't sure if I could close everything after DCP-o-maitc reported that video was converted -after approx. 1 hour 40 min. Nothing more happened under 'Check content for project changes'. 0:00 hours. But it said ok.

I was able to play the DCP with the player.So everything seems to be ok.

You are right, though, that DCP-o-matic should probably end it's long working with a little bit more 'BOOM' instead of just ending silently.

There is an option to enable a message box, though:
