4K vs 2K

Post by Ruben »

I have created a 4K DCP Flat, that’s the original resolution. I have also created a 2K DCP Flat. When showing it on 2K projectors is there any advantage using the 4K version over the 2K one?

Thanks a lot!

Not that I'm aware of. Sometimes it's easier to have just one version in circulation so that 4K screens don't get/play the 2K version by mistake.

You don't need two versions. All major films coming out in 4k come in 4k only.

no need to create 2 dcp's
4K j2000 also contain downstreams 2K 1K 0.5K
this is built into the specification so only the bitrate can become a limitation, for example, I can create 4K with a bitrate of 300-400Mbps and most servers do not support more than 250, and really old servers with worn out disks can fail at a bitrate above 200
example: My last DCP 4K Scope 4096*1716 also has
2048*858
1024*429
512*215
256*108
128*54
64*27
