Importing a DCP into Premiere Pro?

Post by BruceCRT »

I was wondering if anyone knows a way to import a DCP into Premiere Pro, edit same, and then convert the resulting video back to a DCP with DCP-O_Matic? ...Bruce

install totalcode plugin toolbox: you can import in premiere audio and video from dcp, edit and export in files usable from dcp-o-matic.
But everything will be re-encoded.

What kind of edits would you want to do, Bruce? Some can be done in DCP-o-matic without Re-Encoding.

Probably the most common edit I would want to do to commercial DCPs is to remove the dating in movie trailers. Changing "Coming this December" to "Now Playing", and that sort of edit.

Most of that could be done in DCP-o-matic itself by using the trimming feature. If you have Premiere available, then of course this will offer more options than just hard edits. You can actually import MXF files into DCP-o-matic, however, without the audio in versions 1.x. You would have to deal with the audio separately.

DCP-o-matic 2.x (experimental) has regular DCP import.
