Hi everyone,
I'm still new to the DCP field, though I wouldn't call myself a beginner. I've been working in the 3D and film industry for 25 years.
Apologies if this question has already been answered, I tried looking it up in the FAQ and spent all day yesterday browsing the forum, but I couldn't find anything specifically addressing this issue.
My problem is that when I create a DCP from a DNxHR HQ 8-bit MOV, the original MOV looks perfect—no banding at all.
However, when I generate the DCP and play it in the DOM Player, I don't see the same image as the input. A lot of banding and color/level shifts
My question is: Could it be that the player is not displaying the correct color range? The same thing happens when I use a 10-bit MOV.
I suspect it's a player issue because when I check both versions in DaVinci, they look the same.
It feels like I saw a video on YouTube last week where the creator said not to worry if we don't see the same result in the player because it won't be color-accurate... but unfortunately, I haven't been able to find that video since.
Thanks in advance!

At least in general, DCP is targeted towards a 'display', target luminance and gamma that is very different from a monitor. I guess standard well lit and saturated content will look quite similar, but high key/low key, desaturated content may not be properly rendered by a software player.

This is what I had in mind. That's not a small difference.

Okay, this doesn't help you, but for me, this would qualify as a small difference. Admittedly, the difference may show clearer on your system than it does on my Mac notebook display.

You surprised me there by saying that this isn't a big difference for you. But I understand. That's why it's important to have a good monitor so you can actually see what you're working on. Anyway, maybe this will help you. I added a good amount of Levels to make the image more contrasty. Now you can see what I was talking about. And believe it or not, this was visible in the previous image and in the video as well.

Re: DCP Color Issues in DOM Player
You are right that the player is not (yet) entirely accurate with its colour rendition. When I started out with it, the idea was to get something on screen fast enough, taking a few shortcuts with the rendering along the way.
It's on the to-do list to improve this, but I'm not quite there yet.
At the moment, if the player is giving you results you don't expect, your first suspect should be the player itself, and if you have other tools you can use to check the details I would recommend using them.
