saving space with DKDM

Post by kmeh7 »

Hi carl,

I have already delivered the dcp to a client. In future i may just need to generate kdm for that dcp.
Since i want to create space on my machine, i want to delete that dcp.
What files i should not delete if i need to generate kdm for the client in future ?

Please help me with the pipeline. Thanks in advance.

You should be fine so long as you keep the DKDM and the DCP-o-matic configuration (which is stored in different places depending on your operating system).

The DoM configuration allows you to decrypt the DKDM, and that is your key (and the details of the CPL it was for).

Obviously you should test this before permanently deleting anything else :)

Hi, kmeh7!

DOM has 2 config files - cinemas.xml and config.xml. Both are placed in \Users\[USER_NAME]\AppData\Local\dcpomatic2\ folder in Windows. The second file keeps certificates that are used to decrypt DKDMs issued to DOM. If it changes your DKDMs (and so encrypted DCPs) will become useless. So it is recommended to store these config files in a safe place. Later, if you reinstall DOM on this or another machine, just replace original config files with these stored ones.

To Carl!

It would be nice if you have added option to manually enter encryption key in KDM creator. So even if config files are lost or changed but CPL and encryption key are preserved it will be possible to generate KDM or DKDM. For example, EasyDCP Player+ allows manual enter of all encryption keys for all assets in CPL thus making it possible to play encrypted DCPs without KDMs.

See this answer.

See this answer.
Where did it save the DKDM
If you had "Save to KDM Creator tool's list" ticked it will have saved it in the config file. You will see it if you load the KDM creator tool.

Hi

As you said , when i made DKDM from dcpomatic and opened KDM creator tool. It was already in the list.

Now my question is

Can i delete the actual dcp to save space ?

Or

What files i can delete or which one i cannot ?

I badly need some internal space.

Thanks again
