Hi ,
What is the difference between SMPTE and interop packages ??
I know smpte is a newer standard. But anything else besides that .
If some server are older is it safe to make interop dcps ??
Thanks in advance

Re: SMPTE or Interop ??
Both is safe as far as creating them with DCP-o-matic is concerned. We are in the middle of a transition between Interop and SMPTE.
When I look at my log of DCP ingests on our Sony projection system during the recent 3-1/2 years, I have only seen one or two SMPTE packages.
All commercial DCPs are still being distributed in Interop format currently. So I'd say Interop is the current distribution standard, SMPTE is the future distribution standard.
Techwise, HFR and ATMOS DCPs definitely need to be in SMPTE format, because they rely on certain SMPTE features.
Reasons to do SMPTE with DOM could be other framerates than 24 or 25 fps, wrapped/encrypted subtitles.
