Hi. ime creating a DCP for someone. They just edited it on their computer and did not do colour correction as such. Not sure if they really know what it is. They are using a mac so the screen is probably set up for normal use (i.e. not a dark room). I know it's all very hit and miss but is Rec.709 the best bet?

Yes. Rec.709 should be correct for all HD sources in common codecs/containers like Quicktime/MP4,MTS, MKV, ProRes,h.264,MJPEG etc.
For SD resolution (e.g. DVD), Rec. 601 is the right choice. Even sRGB will only give small differences for most non-critical work.
Usually, DCP-o-matic will make the right choice automatically after adding the content.
