Summary | 0001523: Set default/install data rate to 150MBit/s
Description | I think we should set the default setup J2K datarate to 150MBit/s. The 'old' 100MBit/s probably goes back to DVD-o-matic days and may have actually been defined with DVD/SD content in mind, where it was appropriate. With todays HD or even 4k/UHD content, we should probably raise the bar a bit. While I personally have it set to 230MBit/s on all my projects, this is only my personal set-and-forget preference, as I sometimes test critical content. For general use, I still think 150MBIt/s is sufficient. I have yet to see a commercially mastered mainstream DCP that actually uses rates towards 250MBit/s in 2k/24p. Most DCPs stay well below the limit.

Why not use 125 MBit/s? |
|
OK, bumped to 150MBit/s in e495cf4b371086cb5b3e6c2df0913ceb2fdbc273. I don't have the resources to do any objective study of the "best" default bitrate; if anybody has suggestions on thie front, do leave them here. |
