Dcp o matic V2 - Upmixing

Post by spantax »

Hi all

Just download 2.3.0, pretty excited about new features! Now it's time to have some tests, but there's no notice in the manual about new audio features. Can someone (hi Carl :D ) explain differences and use mid side decoder and stereo to 5.1 upmixing?

Thanks
carl

Hello,
I updated with the v.2.6.3.

I can not find any help on the function: DCP > Audio > Processor: "Stereo to 5.1 up-mixer A" or B. (And not to "Mid-side decoder").
- What is the difference in A and B "Stereo to 5.1 up-mixer" ?
- Why in Content > Audio there are not more than 2 channels (UpmixL /UpmixR) ?
While DCP > Audio > Channels is in 6.
- How are set channels ? (Gain...)

About me, I look mainly to the 3.0 to put the Audio to Center from a Stereo file.
And I do not see the option 3.0 (3 channels) and 1.0 (1 channel - Mono).

Thank you for your information ;-)

The processors are described here.
- Why in Content > Audio there are not more than 2 channels (UpmixL /UpmixR) ?
While DCP > Audio > Channels is in 6.
In Content > Audio you are mapping your content's sound channels to the inputs of the upmixer. UpmixL and UpmixR are the upmixer inputs. The outputs of the upmixer (6 channels) are what get written to the DCP
How are set channels ? (Gain...)
Can you rephrase this question? I'm afraid I don't understand it.
About me, I look mainly to the 3.0 to put the Audio to Center from a Stereo file.
And I do not see the option 3.0 (3 channels) and 1.0 (1 channel - Mono).
The easiest way to do this would be to use the content audio map, as described in Example 2 here

Let me know if any of that is not clear.
Cheers, Carl

Hello Carl,
Thanks a lot for your answers.

I had not seen this information ! http://dcpomatic.com/manual/html/ch07.html (> Processor).
It's a shame not to be able to search the Manual "html" version. (Eg Processor).
I should download the latest Manual version "pdf" and do a search here rather than in the Forum.

Regarding the question: "How are set channels? (Gain...)"
I now have the answer how are assigned, filtered channels. http://dcpomatic.com/manual/html/ch07.html (> Processor).
"... process to apply to the audio before it goes into the DCP".

About 3.0 (3 channels) and 1.0 (1 channel - Mono):
Yes, I've used the content audio map. http://dcpomatic.com/manual/html/ch06s0 ... dp58024896 (> Figure 6.8. Audio map example 2).
In my logic it would be more convenient to select (DCP > Audio) 3.0 (3 channels) and 1.0 (1 channel - Mono) and see it in Content > Audio.
(This also makes memo for the title of DCP - and when you resume the project).
With a "Mono" file for example, you must select "4 channels" (DCP > Audio) to get the "Centre" (Content > Audio).

So, DCP-o-matic does not need an audio file (silence) to an unassigned channel ?

Best regards,
Guy-Laurent

It's a shame not to be able to search the Manual "html" version. (Eg Processor).
You can search Google using something like:

Code: Select all

processor site:dcpomatic.com/manual/html
In my logic it would be more convenient to select (DCP > Audio) 3.0 (3 channels) and 1.0 (1 channel - Mono) and see it in Content > Audio.
(This also makes memo for the title of DCP - and when you resume the project).
With a "Mono" file for example, you must select "4 channels" (DCP > Audio) to get the "Centre" (Content > Audio).
I'm afraid I don't quite follow this... can you expand?
So, DCP-o-matic does not need an audio file (silence) to an unassigned channel ?
No, it will add silence where needed.

Hi Carl,
Thank you for the Google search syntax that is always forgotten.
(Suggestion: The (Google) "Search" could still be added to your website Manual "html" and a second link "Home" at the top of page). ;)

DCP > Audio:
With this may be that it is more understandable.
Image
Note that the principle would be the same for the 3.0 [L-C-R].
You may also note the channels (DCP > Audio) as follows:
1 - 1.0 Mono [C]
2 - 2.0 Stereo [L-R]
3 - 3.0 [L-C-R]
4 - 3.1 [L-C-R-Lfe]
6 - 5.1
8 - 7.1
etc. until ATMOS...

< DCP-o-matic does not need an audio file (silence) to an unassigned channel ?
No, it will add silence where needed.
Excellent :!: (but how to know).

We can't always write things like 1.0 (mono) in your example as there may be different source channel counts at different points in the DCP. I'll look at adding the channel details to the DCP channels drop down.
